Web-based training

Web-based training is, in short, training that takes place online rather than in a physical classroom. It usually happens on demand through e-learning or similar formats.

Web-based training is a broad term. Simply put, it refers to training that is made accessible in some way through the web or the internet. It usually involves pure distance learning, where the web becomes a convenient channel for delivering content on demand. The difference between e-learning and web-based training is that e-learning can also mean, for example, installing software on your computer where the training material is stored, allowing you to access that training without the internet being involved.

But today, the internet is so widespread and such a natural part of our daily lives that virtually all e-learning and the digital components of blended learning fall under web-based training.

Why web-based training?

What is the point of web-based training? Accessibility is the short answer.

  • The course participant can complete the course from anywhere, as long as there is an internet connection.
  • The course participant can complete the course at any time, so it can be scheduled around work hours and other commitments.
  • The course participant can break the training into smaller parts and easily continue with the next section at the next convenient time.
  • The course participant can easily review sections they found more challenging at their own pace, until they fully understand and can move on.

With web-based training, the training is always available. Another major benefit is the production itself. Once you have created a course, it can be completed an unlimited number of times by an unlimited number of people.

When is web-based training a good fit?

Web-based training works very well for internal training, or for training as a product where you sell the training itself. But it also works well for training your customers on your products.

Through the right training for your customers, you can strengthen your delivery, create happier customers, and at the same time reduce the number of support cases. Combined with the low overhead costs and high accessibility that web-based training offers, it is a winning combination.
